President Bob McConchie called the general meeting of the Whidbey Cruzers to order at approx. 7:00 pm held at the Oak Harbor Elks Lodge, September 7, 2010. There were 51 in attendance. Previous minutes were approved as corrected in this newsletter.
Momenet of Silence

This month's silence was dedicated to Vic Gabrenas who is struggling for his health at Providence Hospital in Everett. We took a moment to give a silent prayer for his recovery.
First Time Guests/New members
Bruce Biddle introduced guests and new members Dixie and Rudy Logue. They told us they have a 1987 Chevy Caprice, Gold Wing Trike, and a Chevy S-10.

This was the last month collecting car fines. I know there were fines because I kept seeing one dollars bills thrown at us or on the table just scattered.

Membership - Duane Dillard

Duane told us there were 167 paid members in the club. Remember to contact Duane if you have any changes to your email, home address, phone no., cars, etc. Need to have those corrections for the new roster next year. Photos need to be updated too, the goal is to have a picture of everyone's care in the roster. Contact Duane if you have photos and he will advise how to get them in the roster for next year.

Sunshine Lady - Brenda Ackley

A sympathy card on 08/08 was sent to Bruce Biddle on the loss of his father, a get well card was sent to Archie Lillis on 08/23 for his gall bladder surgery and another for hernia surgery. A get well card was sent to Vic Gabrenas on 08/30 for his chemo treatments. Bruce Biddle gave us a report that he is back in the hospital with complications, reactions, pnuemonia, and is in quarantine with Hary Cell Lukemia. He is in good spirits. Judy is keeping us informed of his progress via email. If you have any questions contact Bruce.

Car Cruise Committee - Mel Rogers

Mel was not present at the meeting so no report. See Lyla's social report via an email from Mel about the 3rd annual cruise to Fairhaven.

Chainsaw Carving, Arlington, at the local scoop restaurant, September 17-18, auction the carvings off on the 18th at 4pm. You can make it a car show if you wish?Chuckanut Cruise to Fairhaven, October 10 - Leaving from Flowers Marine at 1pm, head north via Bayview and the farm country to Chuckanut Drive. Nostalgic Drag Race and Car Show, September 25-26, Forks - Larry Brewer and Pam are planning to attend this event. He mentioned several hot cars that would be there and a possible tour of antique car and sign memorabilia, and shopping for the ladies at Port Angeles. He invited people to sign up and come along. Webpage - Ed Hammond

Ed reported that his son Ed Jr. has found a way to do the newsletter directly to the blog, this is my first attempt, so bare with me. He also said there a new pictures, etc, to look at. He set up a photo shoot for September 11, from 11am-1pm at the Holland Gardens. If you aren't there within that timeframe you are out of luck. If it rains don't show.

Historian - Larry Smith

Larry told us the long history of General Motors. I will only give you a few of the facts he told us. 1. General MOtors was founded on Wednesday, September 16, 1908 in Flint, Michigan as a holding company for Buick (then controlled by William C. Durant). 2. Durant acquired Oldsmobile later in 1908, then ge brought in Cadillac, Cartercar Elmore, Ewing and Oakland(later known as Pontiac). 3. Durant left the firm and co-founded the Chevrolet Motor Company in 1911 with Lewis Chevrolet. 4. 1926 GM created the Pontiac as a 'companion' to the Oakland which lasted five years. 5. The 60's brought the creation of compact and intermediate classes, the Corvair was the answer to the VW Beetle and the Chevy II was created to match Ford's Falcon. 6. The 1970's was the decade of the Vega, but by 1977 its decline was due to quality problems and labor unrest.

Tech Advisor - Bruce Biddle

Bruce updated us on the renovation of the '46' Ford Vic Gabrenas donated to the PBY Foundation display. Les Schwab is taking Jim Rairigh's tires and rims and sandblasting and painted them black and holding them until car is ready and will mount them at no charge. Ray Southard helped and sandblasting was done and have the rear fenders finished, hood, and one door finished and painted black, not assembled. Bruce is asking for some help to remove stainless from the other surfaces on the car. Contact Bruce to set up a time to work it with him. 360-675-6970.

OLD BUSINESS:

1. Christmas Party - Tim Oest said the committee was together and right meeting in secret. All working individually for a common cause.
2. Nominating Committee - Bill Morrow told us that as of this meeting the candidates running for office are: President - Lynn Holmes, Mike Harris, Vice Pres. - Gail Jaeger, Treasurer - Jim Rairigh, and Secretary - Joan Reeves. If you know of someone who might want to run for office inform one of the committee members who are Bill Morrow, Lloyd Williams, Bill Waite, and Harry Abbott. Check your roster for contact info.

NEW BUSINESS:

1. Bruce Biddle recommended that we establish a few rules to enforce when we as a club say we will be somewhere with our cars that we be there. It happened twice this summer that we were no shows or only one or two vehicles showed and the host had planned on feeding us. We should not let this happen again. Miscommunication may be part of the problem. It puts our club in bad standing. Prez Bob is asking for volunteers to be on this committee, contact him at 360-679-3198 or any board member. If no volunteers he may choose the committee himself. Board will take action.

PRESIDENT'S CORNER

Cruzers:

Great meeting last Tuesday. Although it's getting towards the end of the season, Lyla keeps us up to date on even more events for us to enjoy. I'm hoping to recover enough to enjoy some of them with you.
I like getting ideas for improving our meetings and our club. Bruce has made it abundantly clear that we need to look into creating a club point of contact for our local retirement home car shows. Some mis-communication, (or non communication), could have caused significant consternation. Bruce is right. If any of you would like to volunteer for the mission, that would be greatly appreciated by all.
It was also suggested, after the meeting, that we allow time for each of the candidates for next year's officers to have a couple of minutes to introduce themselves at the October meeting. Great idea since not every one may know the candidates before the vote. I discussed the idea with the VP as he will likely be running the October meeting. I'll be returning from the desert and may not be able to get back in time for the meeting.
Thanks again, to Dick and Larry for the mannnny wonderful raffle items. If I missed acknowledging any one who donated, don't let me forget next time.

I truly pray that our brother, Vic, will return to us. Cruze Safe. The Prez.

Talking about new cars Scott Wernecke drove his new orange 2010 Dodge Challenger from the Dodge car lot, home and then to the Night Out. It's a real nice looker.

Car Cruise Committee – Mel Rogers
Mel thanked the Cruzers for attending the road rally and Flounder Bay Cruise. He requested that if anyone has an event that we can cruise to contact him to help arrange it.
Cruise to Freeland/Car Display, Maple Ridge, Tuesday August 10 – Route 66 theme week, we leave from Walmart at 4:30 and arrive in Freeland for dinner at 5:30pm. Call Lyla for more info.

Social Committee – Lyla Lillis
Rotary Car Show, August 14, 9am – 4pm – They would appreciate our help to volunteer for parking. Bring your car and show it off. Entrants will walk away with lots of (70) trophies and many categories to choose from. There will also be a few food booths. Registration will probably start earlier than 9 am.
Jack's Potluck Park Picnic, Tuesday August 17, 5pm
– Bring utensils, a dish to share, chairs, and your choice of beverage. It's a beautiful park, and plenty of games to partake in and enjoy.

Harbor Towers Car Show, August 21, 11:30 – 2 or 3pm. – Bring a chair, there will be music and they are BBQing. Souza's are the POC.

Careage of Whidbey Car Show, August 28, 60's (Woodstock) theme, 10am – 2pm. They will be Barbequing. There will probably be trophies, drawings and other surprises. It's always a good time. There will be a horse shoe game to enter. Careage is located in Coupeville, take left at stoplight toward the hospital and take a right after the church. Driveway is on the right about quarter mile? 1. Christmas Party Committee – Vice Prez Tim Oest first thanked everyone who helped on the Rendezvous, especially the Jaegers for hosting. He said it's time to organize and plan, so a signup sheet was sent around to collect names for a Christmas party committee. Just as a reminder the date for the party is December 18 at the CPO Club. Mark your calendars. If you wish to get on the committee contact Tim.

NEW BUSINESS:
1. Nominating Committee – It's that again to find members to who will lead our Whidbey Cruzers to new and greater experiences. The committee chosen is Lloyd Williams, Bill Morrow, Bill Waite, and Harry Abbott. Don't be surprised if one of these taps you on the shoulder or comes up behind you and requests you to step up and volunteer.

Now it's time to move forward and I'm doing that. Brady is my support and great help with everything around the house, my yard and flower beds look much better and we are reconnecting again. Great meeting, Cruzers! The outdoors was great and the desserts were even better. We may elect to have next year's meeting an hour earlier so we don't have to compete with the music. Anyway, again a special thanks to the Jaeger's for hosting the annual Rendezvous and for all of you who helped with the event. Whichever of you were in charge of controlling the weather – GREAT JOB!

We welcomed some new members last Tuesday and we look forward to working with them. There just may be a new President in there. Speaking of...... Don't be timid about stepping up to one of the offices of your Board of Directors. I believe everyone should have a shot at it and I encourage all of you to partake. Contact one of the members of the Nominating Committee and let them know you are ready. Give yourself a chance to make the improvements in our club that you want to see made. Good luck to all of you.

Many events for us this time of year and the one closest to home will be on 14 August at City Beach. Hope to see all of you there. I hope I can be there. I may have to have someone else drive my T-Bird for me.

Sunshine Committee – Brenda AckleyGail Jaeger gave the report and Brenda sent her report. In June a sympathy card was sent to Larry Smith whose father passed away…get well card was sent to Bob Cairns who is recovering from a broken hip and needed surgery…get well card was sent to Val Gleeson as she was in the hospital again and recovering nicely…get well card to Don Souza who had a heart attack and taken to the hospital by ambulance where they put a stent in place, he is recovering and feeling great! Bob cairns and Don Souza both attended the meeting and looking great!!

National Night Out/Car Show/General Cruzer Meeting, August 3, 3pm-8pm – This event will be at Oak Harbor City Beach (Windjammer Park). There will be informational booths and food booths and maybe a few games or a visit from SAR (Search and Rescue). Our show and shine may start as early as 3pm near the gazebo; enter beyond the RV/Camp parking. Bring a dessert to share for potluck at 6pm. and our monthly meeting at 7pm. Rotary Car Show, August 14, 9am – 4pm – They would appreciate our help to volunteer for parking. Bring your car and show it off. Entrants will walk away with lots of (70) trophies and many categories to choose from. There will also be a few food booths. Registration will probably start earlier than 9 am.

Harbor Towers Car Show, August 21, 11:30 – 2 pm. – They will feed us.

Careage of Whidbey Car Show, August 28, 60's (Woodstock) theme, 10am – 2pm. They will be Barbequing. There will probably be trophies, drawings and other surprises. It's always a good time. There may even be a horse shoe game to enter. Careage is located in Coupeville, take left at stoplight toward the hospital and take a right after the church. Driveway is on the right about quarter mile?

Technical Advisor – Bruce Biddle
Bruce wanted everyone to give Ed Hammond a big "Atta Boy" for all his hard work and time in getting the PBY Catalina here at Whidbey. He was the primary mover for this. So tell him next time you see him.
Cruzer Project: Bruce told us he has several volunteers to work on restoring a '46' Ford Sedan donated by Vic Gabrenas, as a static display at the PBY Memorial. Bruce Johnson offered to supply any paint needed. Bruce requested a meeting at his house to discuss a plan of attack. Contact Bruce if you want to help at 360-675-6970.

The Rendezvous, July 31, Jaeger's, 10am – 2pm. – The "Wholy E Cow" will cater. The menu will consist of various BBQ choices as well as bake beans, cole claw and soda. Each paid member will get a free meal, for non-members the cost is $9.00 and children under 12 $4.00. Tickets will be passed out for meals. Twin City Idlers and the Majestic Glass Car Clubs have been invited. Bring your classics for a great show and shine, chairs and your favorite drink if you choose. Have a special trophy you want to make and present, bring it! Port-a-Potties are provided. Some of the trophies will be the left over center pieces from Christmas. Chuck has requested a couple people to direct parking. Jaeger's address is 155 Case Rd. An email will be sent out at a later date as a reminder. Questions may be addressed to any Club Officer.

PRESDENT'S CORNER:

Another month. Another holiday. Another doctor telling me to slow down. I am just grateful to be here along with Don Souza, Rick Klemencic, Bill Morrow and so many others of us who came close to not being here. I give thanks every day, not only for me but for all of you, as well.
We have a new '57 Chevy hardtop with us. Thanks, Beau. I'm sure there are a few of us who will be glad to help you with her. We look forward to having you at our events.
And speaking of events. Do not do like I did a few years ago and be the only one in the Elk's parking lot for the August Meeting. Next month we will be at City Beach for our meeting. We can start showing up after 1530 (3:30 PM. Sorry, it's an old habit.) Dessert pot luck - Always a great treat.

Cruise (Cruz) Committee – Mel Rogers and Dan Terrill
Mel said that everything's a go for the cruise to Lake Chelan. He requested a short meeting after the general mtg. with those going for any last minute questions, paperwork and group travel signup. He also mentioned that there are now rooms available if someone would like to go, call the motel. He's looking forward to the trip. Mel also reported about a June 26 event.
Sunshine Committee – Brenda Ackley
May ''Sunshine'' get well cards were sent to Valerie Gleeson, went to the hospital for a t.i.a., Gail Stultz had oral surgery, Rick Klemencic with a very serious hospital stay, he is finally home and recovering., Norm McCullough had a serious bout of flu like symptoms affecting his breathing and over all well being, Bob McConchie spent hospital time after extreme motorcycle trials, his body still looks like a mummy stalker got him and impaired his inability to LAND his Motorcycle in a crisis. We love you Prez, but you look like hell..!!!! Doreen Gibson is recovering nicely after having her thyroid removed. Ofelia Champlin has had a knee replacement and is recovering well. Sadly, a sympathy card was sent to Tim Oest on the death of his father.

Historian – Larry Smith
Our new Historian Larry Smith gave us the following history lesson:
"Like most automakers in the early part of this century, Ford Motor Company started as little more than the grand idea of one man. Of course, as time would prove, Henry Ford succeeded where most were doomed to fail. He didn't invent the automobile, as many people came to think, but he did put America on wheels with simple, reliable cars and trucks that most anyone could afford. In the process, he created an industrial empire noted for its size, influence, and intrigue.
Henry Ford began producing vehicles very early in this century. The tale naturally begins with Henry Ford, whose first halting efforts at building a horseless carriage led to the founding of the Ford Motor Company in 1903.
Reluctantly, a doddering 80 year old Henry I entrusted his empire to grandson Henry Ford II, an apple-checked 23-yr old who seemed ill-prepared to rejuvenate a company on the road to disaster. But HF II was surprisingly canny, and helped by a group of whiz kid managers as bright and young as him; he brought order to the chaos he inherited. A brilliant new 1949 Ford passenger-car line did the rest, and Ford Motor Company was saved. Ever in the background, but no less significant was Henry's only son Edsel the astute executive whose keen eye for style brought forth the classic Lincoln's and the beloved Fords of the thirties.
HF II then assured the company's future with a parade of mostly successful new Ford products such as the "55 Thunderbird, the 60's Falcon compact, and the trend setting '65 Mustang "pony car." Sales success followed competition success in the memorable "Total Performance" program that made Fords the cars to beat in most every form of motorsports the world over.
HF II's retirement in 1980 came the first non-family management in Ford history. But having languished in the 70's, the firm bounced back in a big way under president later chairman Don Peterson, scoring record profits with the slickest, best-built cars and trucks in Detroit. Today, a new leadership team, including two fourth-generation Fords, faces challenges as daunting as any company's past. Yet thanks to its enormous strides in the 80's Ford would seem to have a promising future indeed.
But when all is said and done, it's the products that count the most, and that's mainly what you will see. Nine decades of Ford cars and trucks. They made Ford famous and the panorama of those vehicles-in on that every fan of the "blue oval" is sure to enjoy."

Technical Advisor – Bruce Biddle
Cruzer Project: Bruce was approached by the PBY (World War II) Association in conjunction with the history of the aircraft they asked if we could provide them with an old vehicle as a static display staff car. Vic Gabrenas donated a 1946 Ford 4 door sedan, a unique vehicle, at the urging of Bruce. It needs a crew to make it into a presentable display vehicle, such as unbend a fender and other body work. He asked for volunteers to sign up to work on it and haul it up to the PBY museum and maybe paint it in military colors, flags, etc. Bruce thinks the project would only take maybe two weeks to do this. He sent around a signup sheet around and had a short meeting after the general mtg. to setup a date to meet. Nice project, I'm sure the PBY Association is really appreciative the help they get from the Whidbey Cruzers!! Contact Bruce if you want to help at 360-675-6970.

1. The Rendezvous, July 31, Jaeger's, 10am – 4 pm. – Vice Pres. Tim Oest took a consensus from the membership about what type of food to have and it was decided to have BBQ catered and potluck from the club members. Neighboring clubs will be invited. The "Wholy E Cow" BBQ will cater.

PRESDENT'S CORNER:

CRUZERS

I want to thank all of you for your support and concern during the time of my testing the road pavement with my body. I sincerely appreciate all of your cards, phone calls, and e-mails. We used to say in the Navy: "Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing." Well, this one was not a good landing but I am walking now and getting better each day. Having my Daughter-in-Law supervise my recovery has been a true blessing. I hope to be relatively normal soon.

    Well, a couple of new items: Our VP got his feet wet by running the raffle and Larry Brewer made us a new raffle ticket tumbler. Thanks, Tim. I get easily tired in all of these braces. Larry - you made sure we no longer have to put up with wondering if the tickets are adequately shuffled. Thanks again, great job from the both of you. The summer is upon us and Lyla is keeping track of many social events for us to enjoy while Mel keeps us abreast of upcoming cruises. I am looking forward to our history lessons from Smitty. What a great team the Cruzers make.

New President Bob McConchie called the general meeting of the Whidbey Cruzers to order at approx. 7:00 p.m. held at the Oak Harbor Elks Lodge, May 4, 2010. There were 70 in attendance. Previous minutes were approved as written in newsletter.

A moment was spent to be thankful for the almost Times Square Bombing that did not happen.

Jim Croft announced that he has a 1941' Willie. Don't know what kind of condition it's in or if it's a kit!! Find out about it, call and ask Jim!!! His phone no. is in the Roster.

According to Jim's report there were plenty cars that stayed in the garage last month. Remember if you don't drive your club/classic/antique vehicle you have to pay a buck! As they say "the buck stops here"!!!

Duane told us there were 160 members in the club. New rosters are available, a free roster for every paid member. Non members will pay $5.00 a copy and if members wish additional copies. Cruise (Cruz) Committee – Mel Rogers and Dan Terrill
If interested in the motel across the street, Wapato Point Village Inn call 800-771-5300. If you need a form to register for the car show go to www.CruizinChelan.com and print out the registration form, and mail it along with a check as soon as possible, make sure you mention Whidbey Cruzers as they have promised us a reserved space together again. We will be traveling in three groups. Saturday night will be our "Hippie Flower Power" party. Please dress accordingly. Dinner will be provided by the committee and price TBD, last year it was $10. BYOB. Please send us 1 or more photos of you and your spouse, if you like. Photos should be late 60's/early 70's of you in your wonderful hippie or whatever days. Please put your name and year on the back of the photo. They will be protected and returned to you later. Scan it and email it is good too! Send or email photos to Vicki Sullivan or Deanna Rogers. NO BIKERS this year. Call Mountain View Lodge to see if you can be moved up on the waiting list. Saturday will bring a Harley motorcycle stunt team performing and build your Valve Cover Race car NOW. There will be races. Check out the website above for activities and photos from last year's cars. We will be leaving in 3 groups from Flowers Marine on Friday morning June 4. We will have Sunday morning breakfast at the Blueberry Hill Restaurant before heading home.
Sunshine Committee – Brenda Ackley
Card was sent to Carol Reamer for knee surgery, and rec'd a thank you from Rai Terpenning, recently hospitalized and is out and in a wheelchair recuperating. The big sad news is Rick Klemencic had a heart attack and is in Bellingham at St. Josephs'. His condition is serious and day to day, hour to hour. He has had to be defibulated once already. JUDY AND RICK REQUEST ABOLUTELY NO VISITORS OR CALLS UNTIL FUTHER NOTICE, THEY WOULD LIKE TO BE LEFT ALONE. You may send cards to their home. Judy will update us when we need to know. Thank you. Please keep him in your prayers.

Harry has agreed to report car shows in the vicinity of about 100 mile radius. He mentioned Low Rider Show but didn't get the date. He may tell the membership of car shows happening within the nearest weekend, but I will not list them in the newsletter if they happen before the newsletter is published or on website. Technical Advisor – Bruce Biddle
Bruce decided not to give a tech report. You know what he did; he turned it over to Harry Abbott. Harry started talking about Turbo Tabulators, Reciprocating something and Ding alarms? He confused me so much you'll have to ask Harry or better yet get Bruce to explain what the H he was trying to say. It was funny alright!!!

1. The Rendezvous, July 31, Jaeger's, 10am – 4 pm. – Vice Pres. Tim Oest took a consensus from the membership about what type of food to have and it was decided to have BBQ catered and potluck from the club members. Neighboring clubs will be invited.

    We went a little long on the meeting this month but a lot of things are happening. Several new cruises, a bon fire, birthday surprises, just to name a few.
    I do ask that you keep Cruzer Rick and his family in your prayers for a speedy recovery and return to us. Please remember their wish for privacy.
    I am contemplating changing our monthly meetings to weekly meetings. The reason is to ensure that I get at least one great meal every week. I just love home cooked pot-luck, GREAT GOODIES. Thanks to all of you who provide. If I could cook like that I would never have left home.

Easter Hat contest

Everyone was invited to wear an Easter hat to the meeting and a vote was taken for the best hat. Hats in contention were worn by Vicki Sullivan, Larry Brewer, Matt Hernkind and Cindy, Jim Rairigh, and Fern Shanniak. Competition was fierce! A vote was taken by clapping, there was a tie so a tie breaker was taken and Jim Rairigh won! His hat was a Viking hat with fuzzy bunny ears plus, you just had to see it!!! Other hats were great too, flowers, Easter baskets worn as hats, etc. Anyone who wasn't there sure missed out!! If I left anyone out or got a name wrong I just simply messed up!!!! My Bad!

Judy Biddle pointed out two new visitors; they introduced themselves as Candi Rohr and Larry Kiger. They own a C4 1990 Corvette. They filled out a membership application and paid their dues. Welcome!!! The other two visitors were Harry Hamizaki and Brian McDugle.

Sunshine Committee – Brenda Ackley

Alma Williams gave us the "Sunshine Report". She reported that Bud had carpo tunnel surgery on his right hand and had his splint removed and is now wearing a fiber glass coat for another week. Scrolling down a get well card was sent to Barb Mann who had breast cancer surgery and doing well. She will start radiation therapy the end of the month. Next a sympathy card was sent to Harry Gibson for the death of his mother. Scrolling a get well card went to Margaret Cook for knee replacement surgery. Continuing on down a get well card was sent to Dick Shanniak for his surgery, Gary Nienhuis is back from CA who had heart surgery. For your FYI Gail Jaeger left for Egypt today to see sand and pyramids and Brenda left for Tucson and sunshine!!! Dick and Gary were at the meeting and looked great! This was a unique report due to the fact it was at least 7 ft. long!!!

Tulip Daffodil Rallye, April 24 – Bill Waite reported that this rallye is not a speed or timed. You and your navigator will have questions to solve to tell you where to go. Bring your cameras. A keen eye and a sense of humor are needed. Cost is $12 pre-entry and $15 day of event. Event sponsored by MG Club. Driver's meeting and line-up starts at 9:30 am. at the Burlington Cascade Mall. Car Show Committee – Matt McMillan

Matt was present at the meeting an gave us a short list of car shows in April. He also told us he would be leaving us to go on Cruise (Navy) in about 8 weeks. I think he asked if someone would try and take his place informing us about car shows because he wouldn't be back until March.

Technical Advisor – Bruce Biddle

Bruce talked about aftermarket flex plates. To install them can be a big job. Defective piece, make sure you test it and do all to can before it is installed to make sure it's a good one. Get your money back if defective. He also said Harry Abbott got a bad DINGLEBERRY? Ask Bruce or Harry about it, I'm saying no more on the subject!

OLD BUSINESS:

1. Christmas Party – Tim Oest asked for volunteers to be on the committee. The following are names I heard: Vicki Sullivan, Brenda Ackley, Barb Mann and Marge Baxley. Tim said we should make it better than last year! Contact Tim if you want to volunteer at 360-675-7929.

2. The Rendezvous - Harry Abbott reported that Majestic Glass Corvette Club stated last year they wanted supply the food for this year's get together. He contacted them and they could not agree on a date when they could do it. Harry put it to the membership and a motion was made for us to go ahead and make plans on our own, it was seconded, vote taken and approved.

NEW BUSINESS:

1. Larry Smith has consented to take over as Historian for Ray Payeur. What a coincident, their neighbors, easy transfer of books, etc. Thank you Larry even if you were coerced!!

Drawing items this month were numerous which include 8 garage signs, 2 fuzzy dice sets, 2 tool boxes, a ratchet screwdriver set, 2 baskets of bath oils, shave kit, a 68 piece screwdriver set, flashlight/drill set, socks, ball cap, birdhouse, picture carpet piece, model PT Cruiser, model pickup truck, and Model T Car Model. Several members were 2 time winners.

FOR THE GOOD OF THE ORDER

1. Ed Hammond told us the PBY Association has purchased a PBY for display at NAS Whidbey. It is a plane that was actually stationed at Whidbey and the wife of one of the crewmen that flew in it will be on hand for the dedication. It will be flown in by Helicopter, so watch out for a big celebration.

2. Jim Croft told us that "Save the Whale" org. is trying to acquire an A3 Skywarrior to be displayed at the top of the hill at the Ault Field entrance. Fund raiser was held April 9 at CPO club. 3. Hydrogen Generators – The two guests Harry and Brian introduced a new hydrogen generator which supplements the burn of fuel in your car, so you have no emissions and gives you 20-30% better gas mileage, and more torque. It only uses 1 gallon of water every 1200 miles. They are done with the prototype and just starting to manufacture them. Contact Zenith Energy, at 360-588-4832 for more info.

4. Insurance Coverage – At the last meeting members wanted to know what our insurance covered for the price we are paying. Jim Rairigh read to us several ways we are covered. It sounds like we're covered for anything and everything. Contact Jim if you want to know the coverage, it's too lengthy to list in the newsletter.

WOW - Great meeting. For those of you who were unable to be there - WOW - You missed a great meeting. Thanks to Dick Shanniak, we almost had a raffle with a meeting attached. Thanks, Dick. Great prizes. The Easter costume contest was a classic. What a tough choice to pick only one, but, that's why our tie breaker VP earns his pay. Good job and good fun for all. We even got a look at some hydrogen fuel technology. We covered just about all of the bases. Looking forward to seeing all of you at the May meeting.

Membership – Duane Dillard
Duane told us there were 157 members in the club. New rosters are available, a free roster for every paid member. Non members will pay $5.00 a copy or additional copies will cost $5.00. Car Show Committee – Mel Rogers and Dan Terrill
Mel told us that all 25 rooms at the Mountain View Lodge in Manson have been reserved for the Chelan Trip June 4 and 5, 2010. Mel is keeping a running tab of who is going. If someone decides they want to go call Mountain View Lodge and they will put you on a waiting list (first come first served) for possible cancellations later, or they will give you info on neighboring hotels/motels that should be available. Make sure the Lodge knows you are a Whidbey Cruzer. Serious planning for this trip will be made as the time approaches. Basically June 4 travel to Manson, car show in Chelan and group dinner/party on Saturday, and breakfast and travel home on Sunday. Brenda told us that four cards were sent to Dean Lohman for knee replacement, Judy Barnum whose Mom passed, Barb Mann for her recent cancer diagnosis, and to Mike Koontz for his recent surgery.

St. Patrick's Day Parade, March 17, Smith Park – Whidbey Cruzers have been invited to participate in the parade again this year. Line up at Smith Park about 3 p.m. to decorate you and your vehicle in green, etc. The parade organizers have three WWII Veterans who would like to be driven in the parade by one of our members, and the vehicle does not have to be a convertible. If someone wishes to volunteer please contact Bob McConchie at 360-679-3189 or Dutch at 360-675-0235.
Pat Carroll Museum Tour, End of March,- Jim Flowers wanted to know if there was any interest again so he could set up the tour. There are usually 3 or 4 other clubs to meet and chat with plus the museum is something to see!! Contact Lyla if you are interested right away.
PACCAR Open House/Brunch at Farmhouse April 10 – Leave Flowers at 9 a.m. The open house is from 11-3. The Tulip Festival will be underway if you so choose after PACCAR. Sully volunteered to be leader of the pack to PACCAR.
Friday Creek Campout, May 28-31 – Heads up for this camping weekend, $25 per night. Saturday potluck for all Cruzers at 2 p.m. in the afternoon, bring a dish to share and your chairs. Need payment 2 weeks in advance. POC is Alma Williams 360-675-3956 or Lyla.

Technical Advisor – Bruce Biddle
Bruce thought there might be someone to take over as TA but no one stood in line so he will continue to give us insightful tidbits such as how sand your finger down, or how to 360's, and possibly decide if a Ranchero is a car or truck? He was reminded that some members of the club missed American Idol and also was reminded that this wasn't community service so he's not doing anything. WAY TO GO MR.TECH ADVISOR!! LOL

OLD BUSINESS:
1. Audit Committee – Jim Rairigh reported the audit was done by Alma and Gail found everything in order.

NEW BUSINESS:
1. Oak Harbor Rotary Car Show – Jim Croft asked us to lend our support and help them this year organize, setup, and participate with the car show. Contact Jim Haddon at 360-929-0704 cell or Jim Croft at 360-675-4146.

Club Liability Insurance – Jim Rairigh explained that the cost our liability insurance with Hagerty has doubled from $150 - $381 due to a new company representing Hagerty. We originally got the insurance for car show coverage recommended by Oak Harbor City Council. The Board asked for a vote or recommendation to pay the higher amount while investigating other insurance options so we don't go without or lose it. The By-laws state the Board cannot spend more than $250 without membership approval. Discussion was held about pros and cons in having insurance for club events, etc. Gail Jaeger made a motion to allow the Board to spend up to $500 at their discretion to find the best liability insurance available. It was seconded and a vote was taken and approved.

I think we all owe a "HARTY THANKS" to Duane Dillard and to Gail Jaeger for their work on the 2010 Membership Roster. Great job! I think the club will support me in making the two of you permanent Roster Makers. If you have not picked up your copy, be sure to come to the April meeting to get your free copy. Your President will sell you a second copy for $2000. Duane or Gail will sell it to you for five.

Treasurer's report was approved as read. Jim is accepting dues for 2010. Dues are $25 per person. If dues are not paid by Feb 13, (44 notices were sent out to remind members) you will be dropped from the roster. Elks Lodge reminded us that with the rent of their facility come the following duties: leave the room exactly as you find it; wipe down the potluck food tables, and empty garbage out behind the building, and no alcohol brought in.

Membership – Duane Dillard

Duane told us there were 139 paid members and going up as he talked, and reminders were sent out to those who haven't paid. He reminded us about getting him the correct information such as email address, phone no., and name spelling, birthday and anniversary information before or by February 13^th so that the new rosters can go to print and be available at the March meeting. Remember your name will be dropped if not paid. Email addresses are especially important to be correct. Contact Duane at 360-675-6866 or email duladill@comcast.net. On February 15 Jim and Duane will get together, make corrections, additions and deletions to the roster and then send it to print. It's up to you.

Car Show Committee – Mel Rogers and Dan Terrill

Mel told us there were no cruises as of the meeting, but did tell us the Chelan Trip in June is coming and he will call Mountain View Lodge and arrange to reserve a block of rooms for us again. Sunshine Committee – Brenda Ackley

Alma Williams gave the report for Brenda who was with Bud in the hospital, Whidbey General, he has some blockage which they think may be from scar tissue from previous operations and haven't decided yet what to do. January cards were sent for the following: Byron Baxley for end of chemo treatments, Gary Nienhuis for heart surgery in California, Harry Gibson whose father passed, Mike Mahoney whose brother passed, and Dean Lohman recovering from knee replacement surgery in Florida. Cruzers are wishing everyone the support for their losses and a speedy recovery for their health.

Old School Dance – Friday, February 12, 6:30 – 8:00 pm., downtown between Ace Hardware and Island Drug, $10 per person. Lyla told us it would be like an old fashioned dance with chairs lined up on the outside of dance floor around the room, girls on one side boys on the other. Come and learn a few new dance steps too!! You may bring a snack and BYOB. Call Lyla, she already has people signed up.

Vicki Sullivan volunteered to set up a Conway Pub Social Dinner Cruise sometime in March. An email will probably be sent out when it is confirmed.

Historian – Ray Payuer

Ray Payeur is looking for someone to take over. Contact any Board member if you would like to. Our new Prez Bob may pick someone if no one volunteers. Good start for someone new to our club, it would give you a chance to meet our membership. It's easy!!!!

Technical Advisor – Bruce Biddle

Bruce gave another lengthy but well informed information about dash red oil/temp lights, make sure those are taken care of immediately. New legislation makes us disclose any recording devices, etc in our cars when buying, selling, renting vehicles. The new cars are tattle tales. Dealers will go into the computers and discover hidden things you may have done using GPS tracking plus others. In California a man rented a car that couldn't be taken out state, he went out of state and he got caught by the GPS in that car, so be careful. These can be used in a court of law. Something else to watch out for is dealer fees, now the limit is $150 maximum in our state, anything above that is negotiable by you which are written words in the contract. Questions contact Jim Flowers or Bruce. When buying a used vehicle fill out a DECLARATION OF BUYER SELLER REGARDING VALUE OF USED VEHICLE SOLD with a picture to verify the description to prove being sold under book value you should have no problems. No more written out reason on a piece of paper. This will satisfy the Dept of Revenue in Washington State for taxes. Contact Bruce for clarification at 360-675-6970. Go online to check it out also.

He's been in and out of the hospital; things taken out some put back and have informed us that he is cancer free. He was his usual happy comedic self.     What a great meeting, last Tuesday. We are blessed to have Bill Morrow returned to us. Good health to you, Bill.

    I particularly liked Bruce Biddle's explanation of the universe as I asked him to do. He is a storehouse of knowledge. Which causes me to question: "Just how much more knowledge is in our club that we all can tap into?" I strongly encourage each of you to search your memory banks and to come forth to spread your wisdom. (Some of us might have to do some deep searching but I do believe it is there.) The other side of the tire is to ask for answers. I'd be willing to bet that if you have a dilemma, someone else has also had it and may have an answer. Share questions as well as answers. Together, we can solve the problems of the universe. Well, that may be a little ambitious but you get the idea.

    Spring has not yet sprung but it is getting close. Lyla is diligent at keeping us informed of events and it would seem to me to be our loss if we do not take advantage of it. I know we cannot partake of everything but when the points open and the plug fires, it's time to make the piston do its work. Enjoy.

    I'm still looking forward to shop tours. Jimmy Flowers took me and Bud Ackley to Bellingham a couple of weeks ago. He dropped us into a friend's shop that is truly amazing. I hope to get him here to describe some of his projects for us.

Treasurer's report was approved as read. Joan is accepting dues for 2010 while Jim is out of town. Dues are $25 per person. If dues are not renewed by January 31, a letter will be sent out to remind members that if not paid you will be dropped from the roster by March 1, 2010.

Membership – Duane Dillard

Gail Jaeger gave up membership chair to Duane Dillard. He reported that as of his last count there were 110 paid members. He reminded everyone that new rosters will be coming out soon and get any corrections to your address, phone no.'s, email addresses, and car info to Duane ASAP.

Prez Bob made 200 copies of our membership application and requested that we take at least two with us to promote our club and possibly increase our numbers.

Car Show Committee – Mel Rogers and Dan Terrill

No report. Please contact Mel or Dan if you have a cruise to plan or have an idea about one. They will help you or assist in the planning or organize it. Keep in mind no idea is a bad one.

Sunshine Committee – Brenda Ackley

Brenda told us that three get well cards were sent out in December for various health problems. They were sent to Bill Morrow, Chuck Stone, and Kathy Hammer.

Webpage has been updated with new club officers and Ed wondered why there was no music when he logged in, so he will consult Ed Jr. Ed also mentioned that on Friday the 8^th of January at 11:30a.m. There will be a special tour for the Whidbey Cruzers of the PBY Memorial display at Bldg 12. Anyone is able to go on the Seaplane Base. He is hoping to see a good turnout.

Historian – Ray Payuer

Ray Payeur is looking for someone to take over, Harry Abbot? He brought the history book of members and their cars. He gave our two guests a chance to browse, an encouraged members to upgrade their pictures and info.

Technical Advisor – Bruce Biddle

Bruce started off by taking Harry Abbotts VP Minute segment and telling us about an entry in his log book (A HARRY MOMENT!). Something about hairy apes, no punch line, anyway "don't give up your day job", Harry said to Bruce!

He talked about the new tech indicator lights, computer mechanized, etc. CHECK ENG LIGHT goes on, OIL LIGHT, all kinds of sensors, etc. DO NOT IGNORE THESE LIGHTS. Find out watch these lights are telling you before you go and drive too long or far. Please check your manual, or you can use a meter under the dash to find out the codes tell you what's wrong. This was a long discussion with strong club participation. You can probably still drive with some indicator lights showing. Funny comments were made such as "my husband said go ahead and drive it". Someone said that Auto Zone will check the codes for you. Contact Bruce Biddle at 360-675-6970 for questions and advice. I think this outdid Harry's VP minute, time wise!

1. Bruce Biddle asked everyone to thank Harry Abbott and Harry included his committee on the outstanding job they did on the Christmas Party. The table decorations were great, and the center pieces were phenomenal in creativity. For those who didn't attend they were metal car parts sand blasted and welded together as a statuesque, all different in size and shape for each table, thanks to Bruce and Harry's time an effort. Thanks again to all the committee.

PRESDENT'S CORNER:

Good morning Whidbey Cruzers and congratulations on the start of a new year.

WOW: What a great meeting last Tuesday. I don't think I can say enough about the support all of you bring to our club. Just - WOW.

We ended 2009 with the best Christmas party, EVER. I can only imagine the work that was put into insuring its success. If I thought I could get away with it I would nominate Harry Abbott as permanent Party Coordinator. Do I hear a second? Thanks again, Harry, and to all of you who made it the best, EVER.

I know Bill Morrow wishes he could have been there in person as he was their in our hearts. He has a more important job now and that is to get well. We are looking forward to seeing him at the February meeting. Work hard, Bill. We will see you soon. PS: Thanks for the skivvies.



    The New Year:

    My first achievement as your new President was to authorize a 10% pay increase for all members of the board. Hopefully we will all get more than we pay for.

    I look forward to shop visits. Our Tech Advisor, Bruce Biddle, seems to be a natural at setting those up. I'm sure I can pick his brain for help. I want every shop to have the opportunity to brag about itself. Part of the fun of having our rides is the fun of seeing what someone else can do and is doing. I speak from experience when I tell you that I have seen some things that were almost magical come out of some of the most modest of shops. Skill and smarts can overcome almost any lack of equipment. It is always most impressive. I'm anxious to have you boast about your projects.

I also believe we should work on solidifying our membership. I encourage each of you to bring in new members like Graham and Nancy Bell (hopefully) and their bright red Corvair. It's a beauty. Make sure you have copies of the membership application so you will be ready whenever the opportunity hits you to introduce some one to the Whidbey Cruzers. Also, I want you to encourage other members that we do not often see at the meetings to attend with us. They can only add to the benefit of all.

This month's moment of silence was in honor of those who have fallen and also those who are now serving in Afghanistan and Iraq. Wishing a safe experience and hoping they come home soon.

Leroy Cook introduced Larry Hagger as a guest. Margery Cotch, a brand new member, was introduced in which Prez Bill told us she had a "91" Mercury Capri Convertible, she asked him how he knew what car she had and his response was "I know everything" LOL. He further told us he had a liaison with her or the car or both, back in 1965, how could she forget!!!

Smitty (Larry Smith) told us he was given a "54" 4 door, overhead valve, 6 cylinder Ford but it sounded like he didn't get the insurance so it didn't pan out. Chuck, no last name, bought a 2010 Dodge Challenger, so we know what he's cruzin around in. If I didn't get a full name or have gotten it wrong please ask Prez Bill, he'll fill you in. Sorry!!

Lyla Reported the "Trick n Trunk" Halloween handout at Ace Hardware was a big success, and at least 700 pieces of candy were needed to satisfy the trick or treaters. Jaeger's potluck after was yummy! Thanks went to the Jaeger's and special thanks went to Fred Benninghoff for setting it up. Ace Hardware said they are looking forward to next year!

Thanksgiving Day, November 26, Elks Lodge, – Carol Croft asked individuals to volunteer, donate (money and time) what they could and Jack Stiltz has requested our help again this year to volunteer delivering, serving, setup, and anything else needed to provide a Thanksgiving dinner to those who are shut in, alone, low income or just don't want to cook. Jack says he depends on our volunteers to make this Thanksgiving a happy one too many. He expects to feed about 5,000 this year. Times may vary depending on what you volunteer to do. Car Show Committee – Matt McMillan

Matt told the members that the Pumpkin Run in Bellingham was Sunday the 8^th. It was funny, he would tell us about an event and then say that's it. Then he would add another event. Thanks Matt, you did a great job this year.

Ed told us he had about 6 six cars show for photos, and possible do another photo shoot at another time. New car update photos on the website, so check it out.

Technical Advisor – Bruce Biddle

Bruce wanted us to be aware of title numbers and vehicle numbers when owning an older car. Make sure they match; this includes major components like engines and transmissions. If they don't match it could cause a delay when turning over titles from owner to owner. He also told about gifting a car. You can only gift a car once. There is an exception to the rule. If you gift a car say to a family member and you keep title or show that you owned the car previously it can be gifted back to you, all no sale tax. He also told us about the tour of old vintage orphan cars he and few other Cruzers took. He said he might be able to set up another tour later. He also mentioned about cars that don't start, it could be the intake valve. SEE "GOOD OF THE ORDER" for Bruce's other tidbits, Nos. 1 & 2. Christmas Party, December 19, CPO Club – Harry Abbott started the report and told us the theme is "Christmas Around the Pacific", there will be live music, sit down dinner, $25 a person, and Jim Woolbright will take photos. ***Everyone may dress to the party theme, dress to impress or as you wish. Cocktail hour from 5:30 p.m. Dinner will start around 7:00 P.M. You may choose the following:

Entrees: Chicken Marsala w/mushrooms, served w/rich Marsala wine sauce.

Roast Prime Rib w/au Jus and horseradish.

Pasta Primavera, penne pasta tossed with an array of fresh vegetables in a rich creamy garlic sauce served w/fresh parmesan cheese.

The chicken and meat dinners will be served with baked potato and green beans amandine. All dinners will come with a salad of fresh garden greens, rolls, coffee and iced tea. You have a choice of apple pie ala mode or pecan pie ala mode.

1. Linda Boss at the Vehicle Licensing Dept. next to the Dodge/Chrysler Dealership is retiring at the end of the year. She is a great staple there and knows everyone, she will be missed.

2. Alice Ramsey, 22 years old, on June 9, 1909 was the first lady to drive a car from New York City to San Francisco. It took her 41 days.

3. Larry Hagger and Leroy Cook informed us about the "Citizens on Patrol" program. This program asks people in a Patrol Car, to patrol residence, schools, churches, vacation homes, and generally watches and reports anything that may need looking into by the OHPD. VP MINUTE

BRATS I HAVE KNOWN

I mentioned to Lila that someone was going to miss the last VP minute and she said that it was the only reason she was going to come. I said, "Just to hear the VP minute"? She said, "No, because it's the last one".

I spent about 6000 hours over at Smitty's this last week helping to get Sparky ready for paint. My therapist said it was just the country music that made it seem that long. Anyway we talked about our kids; one of his went bad and became the dreaded "L" word. Liberal! Worse, one of mine told me of her plans and I said, "No, become a drug dealer or a prostitute" but there was no changing her mind. She became a Republican.

So it made me think of the dozens of cruising kids I had met while sailing. One has been on the dole in Oz her whole life. Another is a genuine boat bum while his brother who I taught math and electronics to is General Manager of a Television station. But the most amazing kids I ever met were the Winters from the "five kids" boat, a 48 foot trimaran out of Sausalito. That's what my kids called their boat because there were five of them, Pacific, Loyal, Gentle, Courage and Vision. They played together off and on all one summer out at Angel Island. About 3 years later I spotted them as they were transiting the Panama Canal. Now they were the 7 kid's boat having added Storm and Liberty. I would later receive a note from Florida announcing the birth of One America in 1976 in honor of our Bi-centennial. Later while anchored off Cape Kennedy, their boat would catch fire and burn to the waterline. Luckily everyone got off safely. Through Christmas cards I knew they moved back to California and I suppose they said, what do we do NOW? I guess they thought of something as #9 is named Now.

It would be 15 years later while Mary and I were on our way south and tied up at the police dock in San Diego that she got into a conversation with some people in a couple of small trimarans. How my name came up, I don't know, but she came and said, you had better come. They were living on three small trimarans in the bay and had finally added a girl, Amina. Perhaps this gave them the incentive to finally quit. Now while they will never get any kudos from ZPG, the Zero Population Growth group, they home schooled and raised 10 of the brightest kids I have ever met. They all went to college and are all successful at what they do.

There is one thread that binds all these kids together and that is that traveling gave them an insight into the lives of others around the world. They learned to judge others only by what was inside them. Their eyes and their minds were both open. As the world swiftly changes around us I am reminded of what Al Rogers wrote, "In times of profound change, the learners inherit the earth, while the learned find themselves beautifully equipped to deal with a world that no longer exists."
We could learn from those kids.

A quick look around and the year has almost passed. Without so many wonderful friends and devoted club members we wouldn't have accomplished so much and had such fun doing it.

I thank you all for letting me represent you for the second time as President of the Whidbey Cruzers. I truly enjoyed the experience!

This month's moment of silence was to think about the cancer survivors we know and love, the ones who lost the battle and because this is breast cancer awareness month.

Judy sent two cards in September, one to Ron Teker for minor surgery, and to David Madeiros for concerns of family health matters. I remind all that the effectiveness of sending sunshine to those who need it lies in communication with the Sunshine Lady…if I don't know about a concern…no card goes out. If a member feels someone would benefit from club support then they need to inform others. Judy reminded us wash hands frequently and BE HEALTHY!

"Trick n Trunk", October 31, 4:30 p.m., Ace Hardware – What is It?

We take our vehicles, park and decorate the trunk of the car, bed of the truck or whatever theme you choose. We see Disney, Graveyards, creepy and sweet. Anything family oriented is a go. Be sure you come in costume, which is part of the fun. Bring lots of candy for the kiddies. At 7:00 p.m. the participants in this fun event get to party on at Jaeger's with a great potluck and laughs. You may take your dish to their place before attending the "Trick n Trunk". Please, if you intend to participate let Lyla know so there is enough parking at ACE and to give Jaeger's a heads up. Let her know if you need electric power so you will be parked accordingly.

Thanksgiving Day, November 26, Elks Lodge, – Jack Stiltz requested our help again this year to volunteer delivering, serving, setup, and anything else needed to provide a Thanksgiving dinner to those who are shut in, alone, low income or just don't want to cook. Jack says he depends on our volunteers to make this Thanksgiving a happy one too many. He expects to feed about 5,000 this year. Times may vary depending on what you volunteer to do. Website/Photographer – Ed Hammond

Ed will be taking photos of members and their cars for the website, or if you just want to renew your present photo on the site. This will take place Saturday October 10, 10am - 11:30 am at "Holland Gardens Park" which is at the intersection of SE 6^th Ave and SE Ireland. If you're driving on Midway Blvd it's one block west of the bowling alley on the right.

There is no cost involved. I just want to update our website and give the members a chance to get an update on their car picture. Please respond if you plan to get your car picture taken so I can have some idea as to how many to expect.

For those who were not at the meeting you are reading this after the date. Contact Ed and maybe you can work something out with him to take a picture at a later date?

Technical Advisor – Bruce Biddle

Bruce told us the "Pleasure Palace" (storage trailer) ceiling and roof did get resealed for $150.00. He hijacked Prez Bill who was already on sight at Harry's house. Bruce wanted us to be aware of title numbers and vehicle numbers when owning an older car. Make sure they match; this includes major components like engines and transmissions. If they don't match it could cause a delay when turning over titles from owner to owner. If you have any questions contact Bruce and ask him.

OLD BUSINESS:

1. By-laws Committee – Prez Bill told us that the by-laws were reviewed

and sent out by email. Comments, recommendations, and discussions were rec'd by Bill and committee. The by-laws were changed to reflect all the recommendations and to clarify officer positions as well as simplify wording. A final copy was emailed again as a whole document. Prez asked that the by-laws be adopted as a whole. A motion was made and seconded to approve and accept the revised by-laws. A show of hands approved the by-laws. If you would like a printed copy and did not receive it by email or if you don't have email contact Prez Bill. The committee rec'd a thank you and a big round of applause; they put a lot of hours of discussion in this. Committee consisted of Gail Jaeger, Alma Williams, Duane Dillard, and Greg Speck. Thanks again for such an awesome job!

Christmas Party, December 19, CPO Club – Harry Abbott started the report and told us the theme is "Christmas Around the Pacific", there will be live music, sit down dinner, $25 a person, and Ed Hammond will be taking photos. Dinner will start around 7:00 P.M. You may choose the following:

Entrees: Chicken Marsala w/mushrooms, served w/rich Marsala wine sauce.

Roast Prime Rib w/au Jus and horseradish.

Pasta Primavera, penne pasta tossed with an array of fresh vegetables in a rich creamy garlic sauce served w/fresh parmesan cheese.

The chicken and meat dinners will be served with baked potato and green beans amandine. All dinners will come with a salad of fresh garden greens, rolls, coffee and iced tea. MY SUMMER ADVENTURE

Mary always says that adventure is discomfort recollected in tranquility. Now a simple 50^th Reunion trip to Californacated could have been made by plane or even an "ordinary" car and it would have been a vacation. But if you make the same trip in an untried hotrod put together by an incompetent nincompoop, well, that makes it an adventure.

You have probably been to Reunions. It's where you shake hands with all the guys and hug all the ladies, saying "How good to see you. You look great." while trying to look at their photo name tag so you can see who they used to be. Then you remember that you never even liked them and go look for an old girlfriend.

It was here that Mary met up with her old Girl Scout friends and decided that they all should go for a hike up in the Desolation Wilderness; 64,000 acres of rugged alpine forest, granite peaks, and glacially-formed valleys which include its most famous lake, Lake Tahoe. She enlisted an old skiing buddy and for a warm-up decided the three of us should go up Pyramid Peak, 10,000 feet of vertical rock. So off we go, first having to hike into the base camp at 7,300 feet. From the trail head this is only 450 miles or so while carrying a 350 pound pack with food, sleeping bags, tents, stove, picks, axes, and implements of destruction. Early the next morning we climbed for the summit, an additional 2700 feet…..straight up….over boulders the size of Volkswagens.

Later that day after descending and hiking the 900 miles out (any hiker's feet know that it's twice as far back out), Mary came over to me where I was laying on the stretcher waiting to be medivaced out, patted me on the head and said, "atta boy". With transfusions and oxygen I was able to make the next day's hike into Lake Winnemucca.

Desolation is lucky in one respect as it hasn't a significant number of trees to attract the timber industry. We as a country are lucky in that a number of extremely bad decisions have been recently overturned regarding roads and logging in these areas. Of the nearly 2 million acres of old growth redwoods, only 4.4% remain. 1/3^rd of the Giant Sequoias were cut before being protected. These are trees over 300' tall, 40'in diameter, and whose sprouts broke into sunlight over 1000 years before Jesus walked the earth. "God has cared for these trees, saved them from drought, disease, avalanches, and a thousand tempests and floods. But he cannot save them from fools." John Muir, speaking of the Sequoias. Logging of the redwoods continues.

Theodore Roosevelt said of the destruction of the Grand Canyon in 1903, "Leave it as it is. You can not improve on it. The ages have been at work on it, and man can only mar it. What you can do is to keep it for your children, your children's children and for all that come after you." We now have over 60 National Parks & 100 National Monuments thanks to farsighted people like him

CRUZ'N WITH THE PREZ!

Well we had another great meeting and I would like to thank the 89 strong who turned out to share the evening with friends. Our by-laws committee did an incredible job revising and clarifying for us all the technical aspects of running our club and bringing us into compliance with state law. We have a new spot for our Trick or Trunk event on Halloween, the Christmas party is being planned and we had members step up to run for President and Vice President. We remain busy and I am sure many will want to step up and volunteer to serve or deliver meals for Community Harvest. Some of our friends will be leaving for warmer climates now that winter is here, the rest of us will stay here and marvel at the beauty of a northwest winter. Meanwhile keep enjoying the outdoors and driving those cars on these sunny fall days. We are now 169 members and growing and I thank you for letting me represent you.

Moment of Silence

This month's moment of silence was for the recent passing of Prez Bill's mom who passed away August 23. Bill thanked everyone for their cards and kind words during his time of mourning.

SCOTT WERNECKE'S DAY

The Whidbey Cruzer's were privileged with the honor of witnessing Scott's swearing in ceremony to the Air National Guard Reserve. Scott introduced Capt. Jason Longoria. Scott told us that he started this journey around January of 2009 and working around various obstacles the Air National Guard is taking him on. At 47 years of age they must have decided he was worth it. Previously in the Marine Corp for eight years and then joined the WA Highway Patrol, he's been out for twenty one years.

He has three sons in the military and outranking them all as an E-5. Congratulations Scott, YOU STILL GOT IT!

There was a lot of money collected, at least $21.00, maybe more. The weather was a little iffy, so most drove their daily drivers.

Treasurer's report was approved as read. Jim said he is also accepting dues for 2010. $25 per person.

Trailer License – Jim told us he rec'd the license renewal for our trailer. He told us it would cost about $75 a year to keep it like it is. The trailer does is not considered a classic because it's not a car. If we want to move it we'll need a trip permit which cost $25 and good for three days. The trailer has not moved in the last year or so. Not going
to buy tags. If it needs to be moved we'll buy a trip permit or find another way to haul what's in the trailer.

Gail was short and to the point, 167 paid members and two life members. Gail reported that it is up to you the member to contact her if info in the new roster needs correction. Need a new roster, see or contact Gail. Judy reported she sent a card to Bob Cray for heart surgery and is mending very well; he's in Europe for six weeks. A feeling better card sent to Pam Taylor for health issues, she was there at the meeting. Bruce Johnson's dad had a heart attack. Bruce told us his kidney's were messed up so he had to come home and get that taken care of before they can continue. A card was sent to the Shanniak newlyweds married at the Pizza Factory in August; Prez Minister Bill performed the ceremony. Dick said three weeks and still going strong.

Social Committee – Lyla Lillis

Vicki Sullivan stepped down as Social Chair due to other commitments, so Bill twisted Lyla's arm and she will assume the roll for the remainder of the year. Thank you Lyla! She urged others to think about taking over for next year. The clip board was being passed around for sign up of various events coming up. Lyla sent out an email requesting an email update so that members will receive notification of events. Let her know of any changes if not getting emails from her. Call her.

Jack's Park Potluck Picnic – This was an impromptu bonfire potluck, 26 people showed, home made ice cream served, had a great time, and Judy Whited won everything.

Careage of Whidbey Car Show/BBQ, September 12, 10 – 2 pm. - Theme for the day is Hawaiian. There will be prizes probably for costume, best car, and more. A serious game of horse shoes, etc. Sign up with Lyla, Suzi Souza is the POC for questions about this event. 360-675-4523

Roaring 20's Barn Dance, Roller Barn, October 3, 6-11 p.m. - $25 cover charge, all proceeds going to the Boys and Girls Club. Gail Jaeger said she was approached to see if we would provide 20's and 30's cars to park outside the barn.

Lyla said to think about our "TRICK a TRUNK" on October 31. The dealership or property has been sold so possibly if we just show up we probably won't be turned away. Located at Oak Harbor Chevy on Pioneer, Cruzers bring our cars and dress in costume and give out candy to the trick or treater's. After, participants are welcome to a potluck at Chuck and Gail Jaeger's.

Matt read off a shorter list of car shows for the month of September. He told us that the car shows are starting to fizzle out, so his report will be shorter and shorter.

Ed reported that there is new music playing when you log in to the website. The music is cycled so different each time you logon. He also has added new car photos. Again, if you don't like your car photo let him know. Check it out and be surprised!

Technical Advisor – Bruce Biddle

Bruce commented that Bob Cray had stents put in and gets to go to Europe and he had a triple by-pass and got two weeks at home in a recliner! The Manly Man Swap Meet was organized chaos but went GREAT. Everyone came, did their thing and left. There was a lot of traffic due to Bruce's advertising. When asked if he would have another one, OVER HIS DEAD BODY! This was his own one time gig and suggested that if someone else wants to do it, DO IT on their property or make it a Cruzer Event! Bruce thanked all that came and participated, especially Bob McConchie who did Bruce's dirty work, turning those away that were not on the display list. Bruce was given a thank you gift for the swap meet.

Bruce found out that there were a couple of fellows who have unique cars, one with cars prior to 1910, naming cars he had never heard of on the island and the other with just lots. Bruce will find out more and arrange a tour/picnic, etc. or shop tour and email when setup is made.

Bruce asked for help to insulate the trailer roof, not a big job just all screws. Contact Bruce to arrange a work date.

OLD BUSINESS:

1. By-laws Committee – Gail Jaeger
told us the by-laws recommendations were ready for viewing and consideration. Changes made were basically making officer duties more specific, change sentence structure, and adding a couple minor things that we do that aren't in the by-laws. They will be sent out to each member with an email address. They are provided to you as incorporated fully compiled new By-laws. For those who don't have email a printed copy has been made. ANIVERSARY

In 16 days it's the 20^th anniversary of Hugo, a 160mph, category 4/5 hurricane. On Sept 15^th of 1989 I was anchored in one of the most beautiful and safe harbors in the Virgin Islands. Two days later I was standing on what was left of my boat, half naked, having barely survived the night. It reminded me of my first honeymoon. For the next week I filled a huge dumpster that the city brought by with 18 years of memories, things that I had thought were important but ended up being just "stuff".

Last year I was at a class on sustainable living and the teacher asked what the biggest hurdle was. That was easy. I raised my hand. "Too much stuff."

So it is with some humor that I look at what is the fastest growing business in the US, Storage Lockers.

One in 11 American households owns self-storage space—an increase of some 75 percent from 1995. Last year alone saw a 24 percent spike in the number of self-storage units on the market. The country now possesses some 1.875 billion square feet of personal storage. All this space is contained in nearly 40,000 facilities; most seem to be located here in Oak Harbor.

What are they full of? There are mementos we somehow can't live with, and yet can't live without. They exemplify the downside of acquisition, the moment when we realize we own more bread machines, plastic lawn chairs, and treadmills than we could use in a lifetime.

So, to get this straight—houses have gotten bigger, average family sizes got smaller, and yet we still need to tack on a billion-plus square feet to store our stuff?

"You can't take it with you," as the proverb says—but nowadays you can certainly find a place to stash it. Me, I keep my stuff in a landfill in St Croix.

CRUZ'N WITH THE PREZ!

Well what do you know? September is here so what is around the corner? Yep old man winter is fast approaching and that means no more complaining about how hot it is, we can start complaining about how cold it is! We will see fewer cars on the road (old that is), friends leaving for the winter and car guys complaining about our aches and pains. It is dark at 5:00 P.M. and suddenly our energy level goes down, we eat more, we go to bed earlier and for 6 months we wait for the sun to come back!

How do we combat the winter doldrums? You could run for one of the exciting board positions open with the Whidbey Cruzers and suddenly become the envy of all your friends, the center of attention and the guy or gal all your friends want to be. There will be a new zip in your step, a twinkle in your eye and a new confidence as you become a leader and a role model. Talk to one of your board members now!

Thanks to all my Cruzer friends for your love, prayers and kind words after the recent passing of my momma.

President Bill Morrow called the general meeting of the Whidbey Cruzers to order at approx. 6:50 p.m. held at the Windjammer Park (City Beach), August 4, 2009. There were 80 in attendance. Previous minutes were approved as written in newsletter.

Moment of Silence

This month's moment of silence was for the recent passing of parents of our membership. Those were Don and Suzi Souza who both lost their mothers, Matt Hernkind, lost his father, Jim Rairigh, lost his mother, and Jim Croft who lost his father. Others who passed were Archie Lillis' mother and Gwen Oests' sister.

Car Fines

The weather was warm and gorgeous! Lots of our classics showed up for the mini car show. Everyone pays who doesn't drive their car, NO EXCUSES. At least one or two members had to pay. Jim Rairigh wanted to protest his car fine because the folding tables he brought for tonight did not fit in his T-Bucket, he got a big rise out the members!!!!

First Time Guests and New Members

Mary Jo Phillips introduced Margie Kott and trying to convince her to join. Don and Sue Norman introduced themselves as guests who were previous members and possibly joining again. Darlene Seeley was visiting us as a friend of Carol and Bob Reamer. Welcome and hope to see you again.

New Cars

Margie Baxley announced that the Baxley's own a new 2009 Black HHR SS and is now at the Beauty Parlor (Smitty's) getting a dress up. Harry said he had a Hummer, turn the ignition and it hums!!! Bill also said he didn't think anyone bought a car because Bruce Biddle (estate sale) was out of town!!!

Jack's Park Potluck Picnic – It was cancelled due to conflicting family events. Carol Stone will reschedule it as a sort of impromptu date in the future by email and will probably be bonfire/campfire style. Be on the lookout for an email.

Campout, Friday Creek Campground, Sept 4-7 – Sign up with Alma Williams, she needs to reserve the camp sites ASAP to get the spots we want. Saturday will probably be potluck day for all to participate at about 2 p.m. Call her at 360-675-3956.

Matt read off a long list of car shows for the month of August, first being the Rotary Car Show in Oak Harbor at Windjammer Park on the 8^th of August. He asked if any trophies were given in July and rec'd no answer. He moved on and listed multiple shows. Prez Bill talked about the LeMay car show and this year it is a judged show. Anacortes Fidalgo Care Center, Small Car Show, August 14, 11:00 a.m. - Lunch is provided for us. Dress up in your favorite era and join us at the 27^th street entrance. To sign up call Ray or Flo Payeur, if you need directions ask Flo.

Prez Bill reminded everyone about Bruce's "Manly Man Swap Meet" will be held on Saturday, Aug 22. He said there could be only one truck and one table per person,
first one or two hours will be trading/buying amongst ourselves then open it up to the public. Only manly stuff, no jewelry, doilies, dishes, tools, car parts, manuals, etc. are okay. You might be inspected so BEWARE! You may win the PINK SKIRT AWARD! No tech classes scheduled.

All of us had to make sure that we got the tickets we paid for and also made sure Bob still had the money and did not pocket it for himself!! 1. Last meeting I missed mentioning a new member who attended the July meeting. His name is Pedro Velasquez and owns 2010 SS Camaro Red w/white stripes. Welcome aboard Pedro. Thanks Steve.

2. The 2^nd Annual Cruzer Rendezvous was a smash hit! Ten of the original charter members were there, a group picture of them was taken and is on the webpage, food was good, the weather held up, and the prizes were plentiful and unique. About 75 cars were put on display. Thanks to all who came from Prez Bill. Check out the webpage for all the pictures taken. The best part was Harry came in under budget!!! Harry tried to convince the membership to pay for the gravel job $1500? Funny!!!!!!!!

3. Jim Haddon asked for help with parking the cars at the Rotary show on the 8^th at 6:00 a.m.

4. Potluck Queen was awarded to Brenda Ackley. She left early from the Rendezvous, so it was presented to her this evening.

5. Rollin Whited mentioned a car museum in Twyla, WA had about 8 cars for
sale, if anyone interested contact Rollin at 360-240-9342.

6. Ed Hammond brought up the Navy League Anniversary in October and was asked if we could have cars displayed at the CPO Club, a 40's and 50's theme. Sign up next month.

Obnoxious People

You know who's obnoxious? Ex-Smokers. "I quit, you know. Why, I haven't had a cigarette for over 11 minutes now". Worse than them, reformed drinkers. "It's been 15 years and one month exactly since I had a drink". Cripes! Wait, it gets more worser. Next is the reformed hot water people. These guys put in solar water heaters and quit paying for heating their water. Then one bump up the scale is the people who refuse to give PSE their "fair" profit margin. These people's electric bill is 163 bucks…..for the year and they'll get a check from PSE for $350 for power produced. Man, are they annoying or what? Now we come to the epitome of disgustingly obnoxious people, those who have given up petrol (gasoline to you yanks). Yes, those who have the audacity to drive electric cars powered by batteries and re-fueled by the sun. These cheap skates stoop to new lows, refusing to help the poor starving oil sheiks build new castles, forcing them to make do with last years yacht. To paraphrase Hamlet, Act 3 Scene 1, "To pay, or not to pay: That is the question: Whether 'tis nobler to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous cheapskates (that would be me) or join them against a sea of overpaid CEO's". Think on it…..

Prez Bill is apologetic this month for not submitting his thoughts. He is in the middle of moving and learning a new online email system, plus a new home phone no. He is also taking care of his parents and health concerns. He said he would make up for it in the next newsletter.

David Medaris (spelling?) introduced himself his wife Dr. Dawn to the membership. They have a 53' Mercury Monterey Coupe and they also now are proud owners of a 2010 Camaro. Bob Cairns introduced his new wife Bobbi and she has a 61' Impala Bubble Top. Next Byron Burns introduced himself and is also a proud owner of a 2009 Turbo SS Panel Chevy HHR who has jacked his car up 315 HP. If I didn't mention someone who was at the meeting and introduced themselves I apologize, the tape recording doesn't always pick up everyone's voice or I just missed you, sorry. Do not let it stop you from enjoying the meeting or joining our group. We are glad to all who come.

Cruz Committee – Mel Rogers and Dan Terrill

Mel gave a report about the Chelan trip, warm weather; Mountain View Lodge was a very accommodating to us. Cruzers had a few biker buddies share the lodge. A couple car mishaps but nothing serious, we took care of them. We had 21 cars in the car show and spaces were reserved for us. Cruzers took home two trophies, Harry Abbott for Director's Choice and Joan Reeves for Best 70's. Some enjoyed Elvis Impersonator Danny Vernon, Saturday evening BBQ at the Lodge was great. All set up for next year!! Thanks went out to Mel and Deanna Rogers and Ruth and Dan Terrill for a fine job with organizing a great trip. They went above and beyond to make it a success.

Jim Gleeson said he is ready to go next year with/or without his wife Val.

Mel is going to try and set up a Fairhaven Cruise to the Big Fat Fish Company; an email will be sent out with time and date. Dan mentioned that he would be checking into a cruise to Edison Tavern for Taco Tuesday. Another suggestion was the Beer Garden. Email will be sent if set up before next meeting.

Conway Tavern has Country Music every Sunday Night from 5-9 p.m. If interested contact Dan or Mel to see about a cruise on a Sunday.

Historian - Ray Payeur

Ray Payeur has finally rec'd an input to the "History Book". Persistence pays off Ray! Again he urged the membership to update the book and add or delete their rides. Contact Ray for any supplies you may need. See back page for contact info.

Suggestion: Prez Bill asked the membership to possibly donate any old pictures of the area of what use to be and put in our history book.

Sunshine Committee – Judy Biddle

June was a hard month for many in our membership.

Sympathy cards were sent to the following members who had lost a parent; Matt & Katherine Hernkind: loss of his father,

Don & Suzi Souza: loss of his mother, Jim & Carole Croft: loss of his father.

Thinking of you cards were sent to; Vicky & Don Sullivan: stress in the care of her mother; Bob Brooks: recuperating from a heart attack,

Tim & Brandy Colantoni: Tim was returned home to NC from Iraq to be near his dad following dad's heart failure and heart transplant. Tim will now remain at Cherry Point to work so that he can be near the family while his dad recuperates.

Social Committee – Vicki Sullivan

For the Regency On Whidbey Assisted Care Facility car show on June 19th, 20 Cruzer Cars showed up. From the sign up list there were 6 no shows, only 1 of whom called ahead to say they couldn't make it. Luckily 5 Cruzers who hadn't signed up, but thought they had, showed up so it evened out.

They had a 50's and 60's party with music and a barbecue. There was also a Chili Cook-off Contest which our own Mike Harris won. There was also a prize for best car.

It is thoughtful to remember that the small car shows run by private institutions, especially elderly care facilities, who provide food and beverages for the Cruzers for FREE!, need a reliable head count for monetary purposes. So please do not sign up if you don't plan on showing up.

A helpful hint for meetings is when you do sign up for an event, make a note of it and as soon as you get home put it on your calendar. If you end up not being able to attend, call someone to notify as soon as possible.

Big Car Shows are great, but they do nothing for the Cruzers individually, such as food and drinks. And lets face it, you don't get the satisfaction at those shows that you get at the smaller ones from seeing an elderly persons face light up.

Matt read off his July list of shows close by that should be considered to attend. Matt is doing a great job with emails and notifying us when a group will be caravanning to a car show. Anacortes Convalescent Center, Small Car Show, August 14, 11 – 2:30 p.m. They will feed us, BBQ style. To sign up call Ray or Flo Payeur, if you need directions ask Flo.

Ed said he got more pictures membership cars. He explained about viewing the cars, if you click on any picture you can see an enlarged picture, if you right click it you can copy it to your computer. His Photo shows can be viewed in slide show format. Click on slideshow to the right. You can control how fast you see it by the arrows on the bottom left or right.

Ed reported the 4^th of July parade a success. There were ten cars, Larry Kitchel was a no show, and he thanked all the participants that brought their cars. Parade watchers were commenting about the "COOL CARS". Prez Bill praised Ed his quickness in putting event photos on the website and are usually available for viewing within 24 hours. GREAT JOB!

Technical Advisor – Bruce Biddle

He said he was finally winding up this estate sale, some Cruzers really got good deals. He said he has a couple nice 3 to 4 year projects cars, a 37' Dodge truck and a 49'Chev Fleetline. He does have a nice 64' Dodge Polara, one owner car, 2 door hardtop. He said he has various engines, and other car parts that have to go. Contact Bruce and ask him if he has what you need or let him tell you what he's got. See the back on this newsletter for contact info. A couple people gave mentioned a problem with replacing brake lights when one goes out. In the newer cars there are fuses for each side, check them first. He announced his "Manly Man Swap Meet" will be held on Saturday, Aug 22. He said there could be only one truck and one table per person,

TICKETS: Every paid up Cruzer will get two tickets for the catered food.

Additional meals for friends and guests can be purchased at $9

PARKING: Plenty of on the grass parking is available.

DASH PLAQUES: to be given to each car attending.

TOKENS OF APPRECIATION: As per last year, please make something creative to hand out for fun to a fellow Cruzer or a guest. **Highly recommended.

**Invitations to the Twin City Idlers and the Majestic Glass Corvette Club have been sent out.

*Fred has arranged port-a-potties for the occasion.

*We will try to have some fun games for the active minded.

Directions : from the north-Drive south on 20 out of Oak Harbor about 4 miles to Hastie Lake Rd, turn right, drive about 1.5 miles to a stop sign at Zylstra, drive ¼ mile to 2157 Hastie Lake Rd, turn left up long driveway to the party. From the south out of Coupeville- drive about 5 miles to Hastie Lake Rd, turn left and follow above directions.

2. By-Laws Committee – The committee will be meeting this week and be reporting to you soon on their findings and suggestions for change.

Our next meeting is August 4, 2009. We are participating in the annual "National
Night Out" at the City Beach/Windjammer Park by having a show n shine and dessert potluck/general mtg. You may bring your car as early as 3 p.m. Enter the park after the RV Camping area were the airplane use to be. Bring a favorite dessert to share (finger type); there will be food booths for everyone to partake in. Desserts will be eaten at 6 p.m. and meeting starts at 7 p.m. Please bring folding chairs and your favorite drink if you need to.

- Harbor Towers has contacted Don and I about doing a small car show. It is on July 18th, at Harbor Towers, from 11:30 till 2 p.m. Don and I are taking a few of our cars and Rosalie Olson will also join us. They are barbequing during the time of the show. If any Cruzers are not doing anything for a few hours that day I would appreciate it if you could come and give the old folks a few cars to look at. I appreciate your support. Don and Suzi Souza. Now what was the VP 60 seconds? Let me ask a Fish named Judy. "It's Evri samting yu wantem save long Bislama be yu fraet tumas blong askem". Tankyu tumas, Judy.

One of the things that yachties seldom do, (yachties being a group of people who do nothing but sail around the world mostly naked and drinking rum while you stayed here to work) is ask each other what's the favorite spot they've been. That's because they know that every place is so unique that it would be the old apples and oranges argument.

That said, ONE of my favorite has always been Vanuatu or what was until its 1980 independence known as the New Hebrides. If it helps, it's about a thousand miles above NZ and between New Caledonia and Fiji. Port Vila and Santo were both major staging ports during the Pacific theater.

There are 83 different islands, each with any number of good anchorages and each with it own brand of uniqueness. On Tanna you can meet the cargo cult who still wait and pray for John Frum to bring them stuff from America. You can stand on the lip of still active Mt Yasur looking down into the lava pool while your guide tells you not to worry about the very large hunks of 2000 degree lava that are shooting up over your head and landing behind you. This counts as the number 3 dumbest thing I ever did. On Epi you can swim with Happy Tumas, the local dugong or kaufis who is about the size of a large hippo and who if you give a big hug and rub his belly will get very romantic and will take you down to the bottom and sit on you. Not good if you are snorkeling. We had twins. I put the kids up for adoption. They could swim like fish but were really ugly. On Pentecost you can see the men jump from up to 90' towers made of sticks with vines tied to their ankles. The object is to judge the stretch of the vines so that your head just touches the ground with out snapping your neck. This I skipped.

Bislama is the most common language in Vanuatu, evolving from the 19^th century pidgin used for the sandalwood and sea cucumber trade. There are 105 different languages or one distinct language for every 1200 inhabitants giving Vanuatu one of the highest language densities in the world. Add to this the fact that as the New Hebrides it was ruled by both the French and British at the same time so one village might also speak French while the British missionaries in a village a mile away taught them English. So we come to Bislama.

Evri samting yu wantem save long Bislama be yu fraet tumas blong askem. LONG: to, from, on, in. You save takum tufela go long Vila? (Can you take two men to Vila?) Bambae yumi go long maket (Soon we shall go to the market) BLONG: possessive. Name blong mi Harry, Ia calico blong misses blong me (This dress is my wife's). Titi blong basket (bra) WANEM indicates the interrogative: Wanem langwis yu toktok? (What language do you speak) Wanem nem blong yu? (What's your name) Child (pikinini) Jesus (pikinini blong God). Simple. Got it?

CRUZ'N WITH THE PREZ!

I think it is important to remember that when people take on projects for their club members like organizing a cruise, setting up a class, putting on a party, or volunteering for a committee they are giving time, effort, friendship and joy in helping to create something for the benefit of us all. Show them your appreciation and when thinking in a critical way offers your support by volunteering your help and not your negativity. It is easy to say how something should be done or to offer opinion when you have nothing to be accountable for having never volunteered your time or effort for a project. Support those who support you!
