SPOOKS
by Sandra Liatsos

There's a goblin at my window,

A monster by my door;

The pumpkin at my table

Keeps on smiling more and more.

There's a ghost who haunts my bedroom,

A witch whose face is green.

They use to be my family,

Till they dressed for Halloween.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

Fairhaven Fall Cruise, October 19, 1:00 pm.- Mel Rogers reminded everyone about the email he sent out for an Autumn Cruise along Chuckanut Drive to enjoy the colors of Fall, and have a late lunch at "The Big Fat Fish Co." in Fairhaven. We will leave Flowers Marine at 1:00 pm; head north through Bay View and the farm country to Chuckanut Drive. There will be a rest stop at Larrabee State Park. Check out menus at www.bigfatfishco.com or call 360-733-2284 if you have questions. Call Mel at 360-678-7727 or 360-632-5761 if you have questions, and call Lyla to get on the signup list. Mel needs to know before Oct. 16.

Historian

Harry brought out the history book and gave it to our new member Rich Voit. Then in keeping with the time of season he had a couple of political gifts for Bill Morrow, a picture of Bill with Barack Obama, a hat with a stuff animal on top also mentioning Barack Obama. I guess Bill and Harry have friendly political chats, ask Bill or Harry for the story. Last but not least he gave Mike Slack a trophy for cleanest carpet and a used guitar. He strummed a few chords for us to show that he can play!! Mike and Kathy are moving this week, Thursday the 9th to California.

Sunshine Committee

Darlene and Ed Hammond were not in attendance to give the report. We received an update on Bob Cairns who wasn't feeling well on the Cascade Loop Cruise and transported to hospital in September. He ended up having his Gall Bladder removed and is doing well. His new address is 71 Pine St. #106, Edmonds, WA 98920.

Social Committee

Trick or Treat Trunk and Potluck, October 31, 3:00 pm. – Lyla called Frontier Chevrolet and setup our annual SPOOK SHOW! Frontier Chevrolet will clear out the front of the dealership so we can place our classics, open the trunks and trick or treat the kids on Halloween. Cruisers dress in costume and decorate their vehicles, and can act scary, silly, or both. Participants will want to setup/decorate at the Chevy dealership before trick or treaters start arriving. It's a great time for all. Chuck and Gail Jaeger will host a potluck for those who participated after all the candy is gone at their Garage on Case Rd. Potluck dishes may be dropped off at their garage before the event or bring them along after.

If you wish to volunteer please call him, he may have a list of specific things you could do such as fill meal bags, deliver those bags, setup tables, etc. 360-679-3816.

NEW BUSINESS:

Thanksgiving and the holidays brought discussion about how we could help our community during these hard times. We discussed donating club money and who to give it to, etc. Jack's charity "Community Harvest" was mentioned and so was the Help House in which Jim Rairigh relayed to us that their food shelves were bare. The result of the discussion brought forward the following:

1. It was moved by Jim Smith that the Whidbey Cruzers donate $1000.00 to "Community Harvest". It was seconded and approved by majority of the membership.

2. It was moved and seconded to also donate $1000.00 to the "Help House". The membership approved this with a majority vote.

Nomination of Officers for 2009 - A slate of nominations was presented to the membership: President – Mike Harris

Bill Morrow

Vice Pres – Harry Abbott

Secretary – Joan Reeves

Treasurer – Jim Rairigh

Discussion and other members were suggested for office but declined, so nominations were accepted as read. As it stands voting for President will be held at the November general meeting.
