MEETING SEPTEMBER 10
Vice President
Robert McConchie called the general meeting of the Whidbey Cruzers to order at 6:30
pm on August 6, 2013 held at Windjammer Park during the National Night Out
event. Attendance was not taken. Previous minutes were approved as written.
This was a short
meeting, so committee reports were either nonexistent or very short. About twenty of our rides were on display for
our small show n shine!
Car Fines
There is only one
more month to collect fines for those who don’t drive their rides. September is the last month to pay.!!!!!!!!!!
Cost is a buck!!!!
No new cars or new
members were reported to be in attendance.
One of our newest members Jerry Bacon did attend with Duanne
Zinger. I talked with him a little and
is impressed with our club and activities.
He likes the social aspect and the various rides we have. Thank you, Jerry.

Sunshine Report for July
No report was officially given. VP Bob reported that our President Richard Mack
had an operation July 31, on his voice box to have a polyp removed, but has
been told not to talk for a couple of weeks.
Also on Aug 2, his wife Joan had reconstructive surgery done on her foot
that has been a long time process in the making. All went well. Please send well wishes.
If you know of someone needing a little bit of “Sunshine”
contact Judy Barnum at 360-279-2673.
Car Cruise Committee – No Specific Report
Jimmy Flowers commented
that the cruise to Greenbank and back to the Rendezvous was great and reported
12 cars participated.
August 18, Sunday, Bob’s Burgers & Brew, 3:30 pm, – Meet and depart from
Flowers Marine, O.H. for a dinner cruise.
Address of Bob’s Burgers is 9394 Old Hwy 99 N Rd., Burlington. RSVP reply to Deanna’s email or call

Car Show Committee – No report given
July 23, Goodguys Tour, Show and Shine – The Cruzers showed up and
showed off at Rick Rennebaum’s Garage.
Rennebaum’s car garage has beautiful classic cars of the 20’s, 30’s,
40’s etc. Thank you, Jim Croft for
setting up the little show. Bob Sine’s Upholstery
works out of the garage.
July 27, 2013 – Car show at Regency on Whidbey, Assisted
Living was a success. I think there were
12 Cruzer cars and a couple additional cars.
Regency put on a great lunch, residents and visitors were plenty. Jim Rairigh took home the best car award for
his 1922 T-Bucket.
August 10, 2013 – North Whidbey Car Show was mentioned and
registration forms were available.
Bob Cairns would
appreciate if a member would step up and take over as Car Show
Chairperson. It’s not hard!
Additional shows are
listed in the Events Calendar at a Glance.
If any member knows of a
car show please contact Bob at 206-499-2436 cell or email bob2bobc@aol.com.
Social Committee – Deanna Rogers
Deanna reported that the
Rendezvous was a success. The membership
reminded her about the cruise that is mentioned in the Cruise Committee
section.
Secretary Joan Reeves
reported 81 people signed and everyone got one ticket for the 50/50
drawing. There were 2 drawings for the
50/50 each for $50. The winners were
Darlene Hammond and Traci Hammond (daughter in-law). The winners of the dessert contest were 1st
place, Marge Baxley for here Mint Burgers, 2nd place, Flo Payeur for
her Chocolate pie surprise, and 3rd place went to Darlene Hammond
again for her rhubarb pie. I would say
the Hammond’s ruled that day!!! Everyone
said they enjoyed the day, food, and Rocky Point. No one played games except a little bit of
Hillbilly Golf. Just good conversation
and catching up with everyone was had.
Our rides were parked and showed off very well. It was great to see and talk to members that
we don’t see very often.

Webpage – Need Replacement
Historian – No Report
Jimmy Flowers asked if
anyone remembered what used to be in the RV parking area. Many remembered the jalopy races. There was some difference of opinion about
exactly where, but mainly agreed.
Old Business
1. Christmas
Party – Nothing additional to report.
This info is a repeat of July’s report.
Party coordinator, Virginia Teker told us the party is going to be held
at the Oak Harbor Yacht Club (OHYC), December 21. The price will be the same $25. The
theme is “Let the Good Times Roll” sort
of a Mardi Gras theme. Jim and Linda Haddon are members and will
sponsor us. The menu will be buffet
style w/beef, turkey, and salmon and you can have all three. Virginia told us that one piece of
entertainment will be a ‘Cruzers Got Talent’ Show. Many members were upset that they weren’t
asked to be a part of the skits, etc. year before last. So this is your chance to shine, 5 to 10 min
to showcase yourself, non-religious and non-political. You can be a single act or a team. Committee meetings will be set up pretty
soon. Mark your calendars now and come and enjoy!!!!
New Business
1. Mel Rogers Birthday – Gail Jaeger announced
that it was Mel’s birthday, so she led us in singing Happy Birthday to
him. I’m sure he was SURPRISED!!!! There was also birthday cake in his
honor!
2. Nominating
Committee – Bill Morrow put a little bug in Bob’s ear to mention that it’s
getting time to elect next year’s officers for 2014. President Richard Mack will appoint two Past
Presidents and two long good standing members to this committee. The committee will present a list of
prospective club members willing to run for election of President, Vice
President, Treasurer, and Secretary at the October Club general meeting. Ideally, at least two names should be
submitted for each office. The election
will be held at the November Club meeting by secret ballot. If only one person nominated a majority show
of hands is asked for to accept the list.

THOUGHT FOR THE MONTH
Plymouth
Expansion
For Walter P.
Chrysler, life was an endless opportunity to innovate whether it was making his
own machinist tools or founding a company. He famously wrote in his
autobiography, "had I been Aladdin, I am certain that after just one wish
or two, I'd have taken that old lamp apart to see if I could make another,
better lamp." His business risks were always well calculated and founded
on research and accrued experience. His singleness of purpose—to offer
affordable value in a high quality automobile to the public—is highlighted by
his announcement that all Dodge, DeSoto and Chrysler dealers would carry the
Plymouth line, expanding the number of Plymouth dealers to 10,000 overnight.
